Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
