19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.
Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after March of 2023.
The win also means the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one various events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to get a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led some to question if his skill to play at the top level was finished.
However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved service.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a final set.
He rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
