The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
